Heads of Government & The Nation Encouraged By Adventist Pastor To Stand Up For Righteousness
Pastor Michael Harvey, President of North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, encouraged the Right Honorable Portia Simpson-Miller during a special service in recognition of her first anniversary as Prime Minister of Jamaica.
The service, attended by Mrs. Portia Simpson-Miller, her husband Errald Miller, and other government leaders, was held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mount Salem, Montego Bay.
The book of Judges chapters 19 - 21 formed the basis of his sermon, entitled "What Happens When the King is not Honored." These chapters spoke about the atrocities in which Israel participated because they no longer acknowledged God in their lives and as their King.
Addressing the believers, Pastor Harvey said that when God's people are nor spiritual, nations decay. "God wants us to exert a positive influence on society," he said.
"When the church ceases to be a holy people, obedient to the Lord, the salt loses its taste and the light goes under a bushel. Compromising Christians not only hurt themselves, their families and churches, but also contribute to the decay of the whole nation," he said.

Pastor Harvey encouraged the Prime Minister, "You are a strong resilient woman. Be masterful and dependable, be sturdy and strong, be consecrated and serene, be calm, be peaceful, don't let any one ruffle your feathers. Don't be side-tracked; who knows why you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Like Esther you need to say if I perish, I perish. You are not there to guard any legacy; you are there to do what is right. What this nation needs is not a leader who will vacilate like a reed in the wind. Stand up and answer to your name. "
In her address to the congregation, Mrs. Portia Simpson-Miller thanked the church for accommodating her for worship and praised the Adventist Church in Jamaica for its role in nation building."You Seventh-day Adventists are a constant source of inspiration," she said. "Your faith in God is unshakeable, and your contribution to Jamaica's development, especially in the areas of education, health and community outreach services is outstanding," she added.
