North Jamaica Mission ASI Chapter on the move
The North Jamaica Mission ASI Chapter is actively engaged in various projects designed for the upliftment of the poor and
needy and the advancement of God's cause in the Mission territory.
Last year 2006, the Chapter, in collaboration with HEART Trust/NTA, recruited assessed people with basic skills in church and community, of whom 120 men were successful and received certificates
of competence in various subjects, thus qualifying them for meaningful employment here in Jamaica and abroad. The programme has continued and for this year,2007, over 100 men and women, who are very anxious to enter the job market, are awaiting certificates. Through this project ASI is achieving its goal to reduce unemployment.
During the summer of this year, the ASI Chapter started a Basic School in St. Ann's Bay with an enrolment of 18 students. The Chapter is also making plans to establish an Adult class elsewhere so that unlettered adults can learn to read and write.
ASI has also assisted two young men with sufficient funds which enabled them to become Literature Evangelists. The Chapter hopes to assist at least two more young men or women to enter the Literature ministry before the end of the year.
Recently, Mr. Hector Hall of Friendship in Trelawny saw the need for a place of worship in the community of Funtabel. He went into the community, which had neither church nor school, and shared his concern. The residents responded enthusiastically and
within a short time, lands were made available and Mr. Hall, an ASI member and a builder, commenced the erection of a tabernacle. In January 2007, he turned over the project to the ASI Chapter. With the assistance of the Reid's Friendship Seventh-day Adventist Church, ASI continued with the building.
Suffice it to say that on July 7, 2007, the doors of the new building were officially opened to the people of the community, most of whom came out for the first Sabbath day's worship.
Over fifty (50) persons from the small community spent the entire day at worship with the pastor of the district, administrators from the Mission, and some meber from Reid's Friendship Church.
The building is also complete - ceiling and tiling of the floor remain. Approximately thirty (30) persons worship there on Sabbaths, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights. Brother Hector Hall leads the new company of believers.
ASI is now in the process of purchasing the quarter-acre lot, right beside the road, on which stands the Tabernacle and toilet facilities.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your contributions so far in 2007. Cheques can be made payable to North Jamaica Mission ASI. Cash can be sent through your local church to North Jamaica Mission ASI.
God bless you all.
