North Jamaica Mission Leaders' Council 2008

Sister Vivienne Quarrie, Associate Personal Ministries Director (Sabbath School) and Associate Education Director at West Indies Union, proclaimed a message of hope and spiritual awakening to the believers at the North Jamaica Mission Leaders' Council held on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Brown's Town Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Ushering the Season of Reaping, Sister Quarrie eloquently, yet powerfully, spoke on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit through Pentecost. Using the text 2Peter 3:1-5, she reminded the listening congregation not to be discouraged by scoffers who are walking after their own lusts, asking, "Where is the promise of His coming?" "Rather", she proclaimed, "The Pentecostal showers must be poured out in our hearts to proclaim the gospel to all".

As she reminded us of the promises made by Jesus of His return, she asked rhetorically, "Why am I telling you all this? You know that Jesus is coming again. We already know what our mission is. Therefore, we have gathered here to receive unction from the Holy Spirit. We come to ask for more of the Holy Spirit's power to fall on us. For, it is not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit. You see, the Holy Spirit has to fall on us vecause we cannot give what we don't have." Sister Quarrie categorically stated that Pentecost and More is not a programme; it is our marching order since the day we were converted. She further explained that it is because many of our members are sleeping why the church has to develop plans and programmes to propel us to witness. She emphasized that Jesus has promised that "Ye shall receive power; you shall receive Dunamis" (Acts 1:8).

After a rich devotion, Pastor Michael Harvey, President of North Jamaica Mission, gave a DVD report of the year 2007 in North Jamaica Mission. In his main address, he implored each leader to use the past as a 'place of reference, and not a place of residence'. He then gave gratitude to all church elders and leaders for their support and guidance in the operation of their respective churches. Each elder was then presented with the revised version of the 2005 edition of the Church Manual, and made special mention that those who lead must be guided by the structure and organizational proceedings of the church.

In the baptismal report for the year 2007, Pastor Harvey said that in 2006, North Jamaica Mission was the only field to have reached its goal. However, in 2007, of a goal of 1075, 816 persons were baptized. He further commented, "I am not satisfied that we did not rach our baptismal goal; however, I am here to stimulate and energize each one to accomplish the goal for 2008."

Pastor Harvey gave a report on the Convention and Wellness Centre project. In total, North Jamaica Mission has collected One Million Two Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand Six Hundred and Ninety Four Dollars (J$1,235,694.00). "While we are thankful for what we have received," he remarked, "this is a drop in a bucket." He urged each member to promote the project in his or her church. He also announced that there will be a special Ground Breaking Ceremony on June 29, 2008 and on July 12, 2008, a special offering will be lifted toward the Convention and Wellness Centre project.

Pastor Donald Smith, Ministerial Secretary of North Jamaica Mission, spoke about Pentecost and More, reiterating the Mission's baptismal goal of 750 souls. However, the Mission has a super goal of 770. In addition, he made special mention of the two centurions in North Jamaica Mission for 2007: Alanzo Whyte, Pastor of the Alexandria District, and Nathanael Gracia, Pastor of the Duncan's District.

Included in the day's proceedings was a question-and-answer session and a break-out session with each departmental director.

We praise God for all that we have accomplished and yield ourselves to be used in a mighty way in the year 2008.
