North Jamaica Mission Baptized Over Seventy Persons On the "Day of Pentecost"
On the 'day of Pentecost' Sabbath March 24, 2007 seventy-four (74) precious souls were baptized from North Jamaica Mission.
The Pentecost and More programme, spearheaded by Inter American Division(IAD) of Seventh-day Adventists, was inspired by the original day of Pentecost recorded in the New Testament of Acts chapter two, where three thousand souls were baptized in one day. However, the baptismal figures for the Inter-American region certainly added a new dimension to the Pentecostal figures as 44,775 were baptized into the Adventist faith. It is the largest number of baptism in a single day in the IAD since it was established in 1921.
This historical milestone also marked the baptism of the symbolic three millionth person within IAD which took place at the Santo Domingo Sport Centre, Dominican Republic. Pastor Israel Leito, President of the IAD baptized the symbolic three millionth member while Pastor Jan Paulsen, President of the Adventist World Church and the divine hour speaker gave the call to commitment.
Pentecost and More featured satellite feeds from all 15 unions which were broadcast throughout the world via Hope-TV, 3 ABN, and the internet, including the hub of the program in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Across West Indies Union it was recorded that One thousand and forty-four (1044) precious souls were baptized.
North Jamaica Mission had six down link sites for the Pentecost and More programme, Salem Seventh-day Adventist Church being the main site for the Mission. At the other five sites - Discovery Bay, Exchange, Mile End, St. Ann's Bay, and Higgin Town - members gathered together as early as 8:30 a.m. in anticipation of this eventful experience.
Pastor Desmond Robinson, ADRA Director and Prayer Ministries Coordinator at West Indies Union was present at our main site. He also shared in the baptismal service at Flavors Beach, Runaway Bay that climaxed the closure of Pastor Michael Harvey's evangelistic campaign, which was held at Mount Edgecombe Seventh-day Adventist Church.
