PROFILE

Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Michael Hugh Harvey obtained his primary education in Friendship, the district of his birth. He then attended Mount Grace All-Age School, and completed his secondary education at Frome Secondary School, from which he graduated in 1983. Because of his ambition and industry, he allied himself with the West Indies Sugar Company where he worked for five years, while acquiring the skills of an auto-mechanic.

In August 1985, this dynamic pacesetter became the first Seventh-day Adventist Christian in his family when he was baptized at a youth revival meeting, and became a member of the Coote Savannah Seventh-day Adventist Church. After this life-changing experience, his love for the work of the Church grew, and he decided to become a minister of the gospel. He consequently left his job at West Indies Sugar Company, and enrolled at the then West Indies College (now Northern Caribbean University) in 1988,where he pursued his tertiary education and graduated in 1993, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and Theology, with a minor in History. In August of 2005, he graduated from Northern Caribbean University with a Master of Science Degree in Counselling Psychology.

While in university, Michael Harvey distinguished himself as a dedicated student leader and functioned in the capacities of Head Resident Hall Advisor, Public Relations Officer of the Ministerial Association, President of the Colporteurs Club, and Assistant Head Deacon of the University Church.

This trend of successful leadership continued in his pastoral life, and he was asked to serve as President of the Northern Caribbean University's Alumni Association, St. James Chapter; and as Associate Publishing Director, District Pastor, and Publishing Director of West Jamaica Conference from 1993 to 2000. He also served as Youth Director from 2000 until November 2005, when he was elected to serve as President of the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists.

Not only did this committed worker excel academically, but he also exhibited great prowess in the sporting arena, and was awarded the Blue Cross of Jamaica Sportsman of the year trophy having been named to the Wall of Fame at West Indies College, as the most outstanding sportsman in 1993.

The ministry of this dynamic leader is far reaching, touching the lives of many through his evangelistic endeavours and his active involvement in community outreach activities. Among the associations in which he has participated are the Ridge to Reef Watershed Project, Great River Watershed Management Committee, Charlotte Children's Home, and the Montego Bay Community College Nurses Association. He has also been actively involved in Youth programmes geared at empowering the youth to redirect, refocus, and re-energize their lives towards personal and spiritual development, thus enabling them to reflect God's love for humanity through service to their community, and by their involvement in feeding the homeless, providing for the needy, beautifying their communities, and fulfilling civic responsibilities.

In his quest to give continued service to his community, Michael Harvey was appointed Justice of the Peace for the parish of St. James on July 19, 2007.

Pastor Michael Harvey is married to the former Loyda Broomfield, and they have been blessed with two children, Yolisa Kayla and Michael Hugh Jr.

It is his desire to pursue his doctoral studies in Law or Counselling Psychology.

The life of this devoted leader is guided by the philosophical views that, "The world cannot stand in the way of a person who knows where he or she is going" and that, "Service is rent one pays for one's existence".
