Publishing and Spirit of Prophecy Convention 2008
Pastor Joseph Barrett, Publishing Director and Spirit of Prophecy Coordinator of West Indies Union Conference spoke at the North Jamaica Mission Publishing and Spirit of Prophecy Convention held at the Ocho Rios Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sabbath, May 10, 2008.
In speaking on the topic, “ Ellen G. White’s Writings: Their Relevance for Today,” Pastor Barrett gave a profound power point presentation for the divine hour message.
He spoke on the importance of our members knowing and understanding the history of our Church and the impact Mrs. Ellen White had on its growth and development through its organizational structure, the health message, our schools and the medical facilities.

In speaking to our responsibility in sharing the gospel through literature, Pastor Barrett implored the packed pews of congregants, “Brethren we all need to be actively involved in giving out literature to those around us, including the distribution of our old quarterlies. Do not allow them to be stored in our homes, give them away!”
The entire day’s programme was filled with vital information. During Sabbath School, Pastor Alanzo Whyte, Publishing Ministries Director gave a summarized report on the work of the Publishing Ministry in North Jamaica Mission;
in the afternoon, he conducted a Publishing/Literature Evangelism workshop with fifteen individuals. From this group twelve (12) new recruits signed up to become Literature Evangelists, increasing the total number of recruits for the year to 26.
Simultaneously, Pastor Gary Buddoo-Fletcher, the Spirit of Prophecy Coordinator for North Jamaica Mission gave a power point presentation on the topic “The Gift of Prophecy: Issues and Principles of Interpretation” to the rest of church.
This presentation held the interest of the members, as pertinent questions were answered and various issues were made clearer on interpreting and applying the writings of Mrs. Ellen White.
