NJM President appointed Justice of the Peace

Pastor Michael Harvey, President of North Jamaica Mission, was one of twenty-seven persons who were sworn in as Justices of the Peace for the parish of St. James. This ceremony was held at Holiday Inn, Montego Bay, on Thursday, July 19, 2007

During the ceremony, Mr. Clarence Nelson, Custos of St. James, reminded the twenty-seven persons that "being a Justice of the Peace is no social or political reward." "This Custos does not reward you for your politics or because you are a nice social guy." Custos Nelson also gave commendations to all those who have made it to this point. "St. James has a population of 200,000 and we have under 500 Justices of the Peace, and you who are going to be sworn in this afternoon, must consider yourself very special."

On his appointment as Justice of the Peace, Pastor Harvey commented,"I am happy that I can be of service to God and my country. It is indeed a privilege and honor to serve my fellow citizens, and I will do my best to maintain and uplift peace, unity, and to create opportunities for growth in this my island home, 'Jamaica land we love' ."

Prior to the appointment of Justice of the Peace, each person had to participate in a three-day training programme.

Pastor Harvey was accompanied by his wife of eleven years, Loyda and their two children, Yolisa and Michael Junior.
