WIU Communication Department Holds Technical Training Seminar

West Indies Union Communication Department hosted a two-day training at the Northern Caribbean University Media Center on May 20-21, 2009. This training was geared towards training those persons of the various fields in West Indies Union, who deal with the “technical aspect”.

The main presenter was Mr. Everett Wiles, Chair – Department of Communication Studies, NCU. Mr. Nigel Coke, Communication Director at West Indies Union Conference, gave a brief presentation on the uses of the Seventh-day Adventist logo, as well as information on upcoming events.

We were introduced to Production Equipment such as cameras, camcorders, switcher, VTR (this records the production), and mixer board (this deals with the audio aspect of the production), and were advised of the correct use of these equipment during any Video Production.

Mr. Wiles also spoke of Lighting and Sound, key areas of Video Production. He noted that if these areas were not given much attention, it would negatively affect the quality of the production.

The final segment of the training was a hands-on experience with the various equipment involved in a Production. During each show, each person was granted the opportunity to play different roles ranging from Director to VTR personnel. We are advised that whether an individual has a position as ‘high’ as the Director of the production or as ‘low’ as the VTR personnel, each plays a vital role in the process.

For some persons, this training was a complete beginner’s course; while for others, it was a refresher.

Commendation to Mr. Nigel Coke and his Secretary, Mrs. N. Nathan, for an excellent and timely seminar which was well executed.
