North Jamaica Mission Cultural Wellness Family Village - A Success

Under the clear blue skies in the garden parish of St. Ann, scores of patrons, guests, vendors, and display booth-holders made their way to the Seville Heritage Park to participate in the Cultural, Wellness and Family Village, successfully staged by the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists on Sunday, March 25,2007

The grounds boasted an immaculately and beautifully arranged village setting with white-topped tents edging the four acres of grassland property.

Among the highlights were displays by West Indies Union Conference, along with its affiliated institutions and associations - Andrews Memorial Hospital, the Adventist Health Professionals Association, the Book and Nutrition Centre, Investment Management Limited, and Northern Caribbean University. Other institutions mounting displays included Michelle Moser's Massage Centre, the National Ccommercial Bank Insurance Company, the Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited, and Heart Trust NTA. KLAS Sports Radio provided a live broadcast consisting of music and interviews of key individuals including Mission President and organizer of the programme, Pastor Michael Harvey.

The Village was declared open by Pastor Harvey at the end of the opening ceremony chaired by him. The energetic Pastor Omar Oliphant hosted the day's programme, interviewing many who had items on display, and ably facilitating an entertaining programme consisting of Master Guide and Pathfinder Marching Bands from the East and West Jamaica Conferences, Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) 2006 finalists, the University of the West Indies (UWI) and University of Technology (UTECH) Advent Fellowship singing groups, and dub poetry and group songs by MarJam Preparatory School.

While some adults and children were attracted by the age-appropriate entertainment, many othrs feasted their eyes on the displays. Patrons had their taste buds tantalized by delectable, alluring dishes that consisted of a variety of fruits and vegetables; vegetarian, fish and chicken dishes; and a variety of other meals, soups, juices and pastries whcih were all on sale.

The concert began, as scheduled, at 6:30 p.m., with the vibrant and dynamic Master of Cermonies Arnold Kelly, who rallied the crowd into a festive mood of praise and worship. Gospel Crusaders Band, alnog with the line-up of artistes including Joan Flemmings, Chadique Young, Men of Valor, Praise Circle, Audley Scott, Sandra Brooks, Chrisolights, Winston Redway Mass Choir, Avodah, Paul Harding, Kesmit Williams, Washington Gardens Choir, and Sister Audrey Scully, were scheduled to perform. This outdoor event ended prematurely, however, as copious showers of rain forced President Michael Harvey to announce its postponement.

The first Cultural, Wellness and Family Village staged by the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists in collaboration with the Seville Heritage Park was, indeed, a great success, and has left many asking for more programmes of this nature.
